The Shevchenko Museum invites you to take a virtual tour of our newly-renovated premises.
The façade of the building proudly displays an artfully-executed portrait of Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861) known as the Bard of Ukraine and founder of the modern Ukrainian language.
The entrance opens on to a bright, welcoming foyer and a corridor leads to the large, airy, high-ceilinged gallery dedicated to the biography and works of poet and artist Taras Shevchenko. The heritage gallery reflects the lives of early Ukrainian immigrants who settled Canada through its display of tools, farming implements, and domestic objects. The museum’s extensive collection of folk and heritage artifacts is held in storage and displayed on a rotational basis.
The art gallery on the second floor is home to the museum’s permanent collection of fine art and also serves as space for temporary exhibitions and those of guest artists. Also, this space is available to the community for private functions. The adjacent library houses a collection of rare Shevchenkiana together with scholarly publications about Taras Shevchenko as well as Ukrainian immigration to Canada.
The museum’s below-ground level comprises an archive, storage, a studio, and a fully equipped kitchen.
